Griot Drum Awards

TBABJ 2014 GRIOTThe Griot Drum Awards is the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists’ (TBABJ) celebration of the best media coverage of people of color. The contest is open to print, broadcast and online media professionals of all ethnicities. Journalists submitting entries do not have to be a member of TBABJ, a local chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).

Any individual or news organization in Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties can enter materials published, broadcast or presented online last year.


TBABJ accepting online entries for 2014 Griot Drum Awards

The Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists (TBABJ) is now accepting entries for its 2014 Griot Drum Awards program. The program honors the best media coverage of people of color. Entries will only be accepted online.

The contest is open to print, broadcast and online media professionals of all ethnicities. Journalists submitting entries do not have to be a member of TBABJ, a local chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).

Any individual or news organization in Citrus, Hernando, Hillsborough, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and Sarasota counties can enter materials published, broadcast or presented online between Jan. 1, 2013 and Dec. 31, 2013. There are 28 categories this year. The deadline to submit media awards entries is Friday, Oct. 10, 2014.

Award winners will be presented during TBABJ’s Ninth Annual Griot Drum Awards & Scholarship Banquet to be held at 7 p.m. Nov. 13 at Tampa Marriott Westshore, 1001 N. Westshore Blvd., Tampa.
