TBABJ to Award Scholarships to Minority Journalism Students

It is with great pleasure that the Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists announces its 2012 Scholarship Contest.

TBABJ is excited this year to distribute thousands of dollars to deserving high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students of color, pursuing a college degree in journalism.
Our desire is to empower these young journalists to join the ranks of the working press. Please encourage all high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students of color (African American, Hispanic, Asian, etc.) to apply. Applications must be postmarked by Oct. 15, 2012 to be considered.

Scholarship winners will be announced this year during TBABJ’s Griot Drum Awards ceremony, taking place in Oldsmar on Nov. 15, 2012 at The Nielsen Company, 501 Brooker Creek Blvd. To learn more about the Griot Drum Awards, visit www.tbabj.com.

Students currently enrolled in college or graduating high school seniors are welcome to apply. Previous winners are NOT eligible. Applicants must have a connection to (i.e. you attended school here, or once resided in) the Tampa Bay area (which includes Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota and other surrounding communities). We expect our winners to attend all Griot Drum festivities on Nov. 15, 2012.

Completed application packets must be postmarked by Oct. 15, 2012.

If you have any questions, contact Sandra Bentil, TBABJ’s Scholarship Coordinator, at 812-230-2404 or sbentil2@yahoo.com.
