TBABJ awarded a grant for its Griot Drum program

The Tampa Bay Association of Black Journalists is a 2012 recipient of a Chapter Grant from the National Association of Black Journalists in the amount of $250. The financial award is given to NABJ student and professional chapters, in good standing, to help and encourage programming that will benefit their membership and to sustain the association’s longstanding mission of local community outreach.

The grant will help underwrite TBABJ’s Annual Griot Drum Awards and Scholarship Banquet held in November. The program highlights the best media coverage of people of color and awards scholarships to students aspiring to be among tomorrow’s media communicators.

The NABJ Board of Directors reviewed proposals and based award decisions on a variety of criteria, including clarity of the proposal and whether the proposed program aligns with the grant’s objectives.

As the recipient of the NABJ Chapter Grant, TBABJ must use the funds for Griot Drum within six months of the grant disbursement, write an event summary and submit supporting materials to the national office within 30 days of the event, and recognize the National Association of Black Journalists as an event sponsor.
